H Bake Shop’s Bakes Delish Popeye and Olive Oyl Cupcake


Pastry chef Huascar Aquino, the first-ever New York winner of the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars, brings his farm-to-table baking style to New York City with his new bakery, H Bake Shop. Standing for honesty, happy, handmade and, of course Huascar, H Bake Shop takes a greenmarket approach with its products, rejecting artificial coloring and processed ingredients and opting for fresh and seasonal produce like avocado, spinach, tomatoes and cucumbers instead.

The results truly are special, and one of Huascar’s unusual creations is the Popeye and Olive Oyl Cupcake, which is a spinach and extra virgin olive oil cake, filled with homemade tomato marmalade and topped with cream cheese frosting, tomato coulis and spinach cake crumbs.

Huascar takes pride in creating delicious sweet treats that surprise his customers and finds his inspiration everywhere “even in the clouds,” he notes. His new bakery located inside midtown restaurant, the Hudson Eatery, is full of sweet surprises, nontraditional cupcakes, cookies, brownies, macaroons, coffee, tea and more.
