Olive Loves: BRIKA

One of my favorite sites for unique holiday gifts is BRIKA.

Today, I am so excited to interview Jen Lee Koss, BRIKA’s co-founder and Builder of Business. Jen and Kena Paranjape, BRIKA’s other co-founder and Crafter of Brand, have built an exciting site, full of wonderful treasures that would be perfect for holidays presents – for yourself or others!

BRIKA strives to create a “home for the well-crafted life. By featuring the work of authentic makers, artisans and designers, we’ve created an online shopping experience that celebrates modern craft, storytelling and the belief that our lives are as beautiful as we wish to make them.”

Sounds wonderful to me! Now let’s dive into our interview with the talented Jen Lee Koss below!

What kind of shopper loves BRIKA’s products?

People who love to support local artisans! Everything on our site is handmade by Makers across North America; there’s Anna Joyce in Portland, Araya Jensen in Minneapolis, Rossella Manzini in San Francisco, and Heather Shaw in Toronto, just to name a few.

At BRIKA, we tell every Maker’s empowering story, so you really get a sense of what went into creating each unique, beautiful and well-crafted product. Plus, we offer special launch prices on every Maker collection, while honoring the valuable craft of our Maker.

What gifting trends are you seeing currently? What will be popular to give this year at the holidays?

Definitely gifts with a story! At BRIKA, we bridge the gap between the Maker and the recipient; a handcrafted good made in North American feels so much more special. Plus, our new Holiday Shop curates the best gifts for her, for him, for kids… and so much more.

DIY kits are also quite popular this year, especially cheese-making kits! The perfect accessory would be a Holiday Cheeseboard made by fourth-generation carpenter Matt Voight.

What is the best type of BRIKA gift to give a friend, under $50?

Gorgeous handmade jewelry! We love this Black Shakti Rope Bracelet by Goldhearted Jewelry, the Leopold Necklace by George & Laurel or the Geometric Ruby Earrings by Padgett Hoke. Plus Carma Collection has fabulous custom bracelets and rings.

Of course, a friend would always love this Gold Brushstrokes Vessel Vase (and she’ll never guess it was only $36). If you want to get an invite for tea, try these slip-cast porcelain mugs, and if you just can’t decide, a BRIKA gift card will do the trick.

I am a New York City, urban girl. What would I most like to receive from the BRIKA collection this year?

We think you would love the Anti-Collar Necklace, courtesy of Brooklyn-based Maker Laura Busony. She believes in constant experimentation, and we believe this eclectic piece will take jeans and classic black tee to a new & noteworthy level.

I would love this anti-collar necklace.

What should I get Popeye this year?

We have the most charming porcelain cufflinks! They’re subtle, polished and perfect for Popeye’s holiday parties. Canadian Maker Claire Madill created these functional, wearable works of art.

A perfect gift for Popeye.

For Popeye’s casual hangout days, we suggest our Work Like a Captain, Play Like a Pirate tees—they’re among the most popular items on our site, and would really show off Popeye’s pipes! Plus, you could get one to match. They’re made in Austin by Monorail.

How fun!

Thanks so much for the interview, Jen! Other fellow BRIKA lovers, you can follow BRIKA on their Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and their blog.

Happy shopping!
