Clothes Horses Unite!

As I mentioned many moons ago in my very first post on this world wide web, I am oh so lucky as to have my very own stylist. Not every woman is so fortunate, I know, but I have been around long enough my dears – to deserve it!

Courtney is a sweet young lady well versed in hunting for vintage treasures, a true digger of the first order. She scours the back closets and out of the way websites for rare finds and she always come up with classic looks that never, ever, go out of style.

This month’s look is absolutely thrilling to me, the ideal outfit for an afternoon opening under the dinosaur at the natural history museum or for meeting mustachioed dignitaries from foreign lands or having fancy tea and finger sandwiches with the ladies in a Bel Air garden.

Courtney poetically expresses her inspiration for this remarkable ensemble as –  “Charmed, lunch with a punch, the fairest of them all, tinted love, neutral territory.”

Courtney has a way with not only clothes, but words as well.

Sourced at a spot called “Shrimp Vintage”, Courtney has hand picked shades of elegant beige with touches of deep navy for a very flattering, flirty outfit with just the right hint of sailor uniform oomph and military perfection!

The centerpiece here, (and I know you’ll agree), is the flowing chiffon dress with a scalloped collar. I hold an undying, eternal love for the scalloped collar!

The charm of my gown is elevated with a vintage chiffon hair clip which Courtney has cleverly reinvented as a scarf and a delicate pair of navy gloves. Let’s bring back lady like gloves!  Shall we? Yes? Please?

Top all this off with an absolutely elegant pair of pumps and I am ready to shake hands with the ambassador or sip mint tea in the sunshine.

Merci, merci Courtney!  You’ve done it again….x

This absolutely be-yoo-ti-full jewelry from the most imaginative mind of Pamela Love reminds us to grab hold and go for the ride!

These incredible pieces make me think of blasted sands and big suns and camel rides towards lost cities.

Pamela is truly a talent, unafraid to adorn with abandon – her work is about strong style and no apologies.

My kind of lady!

Live Olive: Jess Rotter Interview

I suppose it only makes sense that I hold a soft spot in my heart for artists and illustrators, being born off the page and pen myself!

But tell me darlings – isn’t just the most wonderful, magical thing ever when someone can take a dream and make it come alive through brushstrokes and pencil on what was once just a little ‘ol blank piece of paper?

Well my dears, let’s sit down and have a nice chat with one of my absolute favorites in the realm of illustration and art, the fabulous Jess Rotter.

Miss Rotter has become the reigning queen of rocknroll portraiture with the sweetest, most whimsical line of must-have T-shirts – ever – Rotter and Friends.

But that’s not all! She also draw animals with attitude, fluffy clouds with sharp teeth, lost desert landscapes and just about anything else that makes it’s way from her pretty head onto the page!

Q: When did you first realize you wanted to make art/illustration a part of your career/life?

A: Art/Illustration has been in my life since the beginning. My parents instilled imagination hard at a very early age and I always felt that making art was personally the best way of expressing balance between the gnarly and the beautiful.

Q: What were some of your favorite comics/cartoons growing up?

A: Archie comics definitely helped raise me. I collected hundreds of them and as an only child, the Riverdale gang felt like my cool escape crew! They even had a story where there was a villain called “The Rotter”! I also love old Betty Boop comics, Flash Gordon, Conan The Barbarian, Spy Vs. Spy, and Josie and The Pussycats. Besides that-life was all about the Muppet show-oh wait, it still IS.

Q: What is your favorite thing to draw?

A: One of my favorite things to draw is stream of consciousness random items. I put on a song and draw random things floating in white space anywhere from a bagel to a couple kissing, to a plant. I do this a lot on airplanes-its a really fun exercise that sometimes serves as a visual diary of items on my mind from the past couple of days. Landscapes are also really relaxing to draw.
