RetroSpective Exhibit at The Museum at FIT

The Museum at FIT is currently showing an exhibition that examines the relationship between fashion and its own history. The exhibit is called RetroSpective, and it is on view at The Museum of FIT in New York City until November 16, 2013.

RetroSpective features examples from revivals of 1940s fashion, particularly from the 1970s, as well as designer adaptions of the styles popular in the 1950s and 1960s. The exhibition concludes with fashions that reference the last two decades of the twentieth century.

Olive Loves: philoSophie’s®

“You can’t create something huge without starting small,” says Joanna Alberti, founder and creator of the custom line of cards, stationery and social expressions called philoSophie’s®.

philoSophie’s® is a line of stylish illustrations featuring the character Sophie and her inspirational thoughts on friendship, love & confidence. What began as a love for drawing the fun and whimsical character of Sophie has grown into a lifestyle and ever-growing business for Joanna.

Alberti hand embellishes every card she designs, from everyday occasions, birthdays, weddings and baby announcements to holiday cards and personal stationery, with a touch of glitter and a stroke of blush. Joanna expresses pride in saying that all her designs are made in the USA with love…and it shows.

H Bake Shop’s Bakes Delish Popeye and Olive Oyl Cupcake

Pastry chef Huascar Aquino, the first-ever New York winner of the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars, brings his farm-to-table baking style to New York City with his new bakery, H Bake Shop. Standing for honesty, happy, handmade and, of course Huascar, H Bake Shop takes a greenmarket approach with its products, rejecting artificial coloring and processed ingredients and opting for fresh and seasonal produce like avocado, spinach, tomatoes and cucumbers instead.

The results truly are special, and one of Huascar’s unusual creations is the Popeye and Olive Oyl Cupcake, which is a spinach and extra virgin olive oil cake, filled with homemade tomato marmalade and topped with cream cheese frosting, tomato coulis and spinach cake crumbs.
