A few weeks ago, in an earlier blog post, I asked make-up artist Valerie Star to tell me what hairstyles would be most flattering for the shape of my face and physical features. She offered three suggestions, and then, angel that she is went a step further and sent me these amazing illustrations. Valerie intuitively knows any woman contemplating a change in hairstyle scours magazines for inspiration and ideas. Thanks to Valerie and illustrator Sarah Keokanock, I will have these three go-to styles at the ready at my next salon visit!

Olive Goil: Makeup Artist Valerie Star
This week, I sat down with the delightful Valerie Star, who is a makeup artist extraordinaire. We met during Fashion Week at Caravan Stylist Studio, located in the Carlton hotel in New York City. She is like a magician with her mascara wand, so I naturally had to ask her for the 411 on beauty! I took plenty of notes because Ms. Star had plenty of sage advice to give. Olive: Hello, my dear! It is so great to meet you. I thought it would be nice to get to know one another. There is no question about it, you are both beautiful AND stylish. Who are your personal style icons?
Kara: Thanks, Olive! I like Gwen Stefani, Mary Kate Olsen and Kate Moss.
Olive: Each of their ladies definitely have their own unique style. Personally, I like Kate Moss’ fashion sense more than Gwen and Mary Kate…but that’s just me! Rachel Zoe said, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” Can you think of someone else who best embodies Rachel’s statement?
Kara: I think So fia Vergara embodies this statement more then anyone. Her staple Jessica Rabbit dresses work for her and she lets her smile and personality do the rest. It is iconic to have a signature look.
Olive: Well, it is very obvious to everyone who is anyone that Sofia Vergara and I have a lot in common…not! If you were to dress ME, what would you recommend?
