Live Olive: MOON CANYON

Do not forget, my dears, in this new age of world wide webbing and email missives and smart phones and touch screens and the like… to stop, stand still, sit quiet…and smell the roses…

Daffodils, tulips, irises and lilacs, daisies and peonies – flowers have my heart! I am in love with sea and sky, but it is the land and its multicolored vibrant blossoms that grab hold – and don’t let go.

Moon Canyon are masters (mistresses, actually!) of the petal, floral arrangers inspired by everything from literature to country music. I am wowed, floored and awed by their talents and that said – I am so very pleased to introduce Miss Kristen Cassie, Moon Canyon co-founder.

Tell it like it is Miss Cassie!

Q: What drew you to floral art?

A: The flowers. For sure.  When I was in college studying literature I took a part time gig at a flower shop. Flowers demand you to be here now. Working with something so beautiful became meditative and poetic at the same time. Unlike school, which was face-in-a-book/ head-in-the-clouds, my part time job became a bit more visceral for me. I really enjoyed the way I could evoke feeling and emotion through floral arrangements, from both others and myself. I was hooked!

Q: What inspires your work (outside of the flowers themselves)?

A: Oh my gosh, everything! BUT…I will say music has really helped me to find my “voice” if you will as a floral designer. I will hear a song and immediately images of flowers will come to mind. I will want to make something that looks like what that song sounds like. This is one of my favorites to listen to get inspired…

Q: Favorite flower?

A: Daffodil and paper whites. I love bulb flowers. Eternal spring!

Olive Loves: Lulu Organics

Believe me, my dears, I do know how we ladies stress about our tresses, but fear no more! Hair help is on the way in the form of a yummy, healthy, all organic treats for our locks from Lulu Organics.

Give me your dry, your greasy, your split ends! And Lulu will make them right again, bringing back the lush, shiny, lovely hair you deserve.

This boutique company was started by the talented illustrator and designer, Linda Aldredge. Miss Aldredge is one of those women who can do just about anything, from building a fantastical tree house getaway on her land in upstate New York, to creating beautiful artwork, to dreaming up incredible hair and beauty products that make you feel and look, just simply spectacular.

Lulu offers luscious lip balms, sweet-smelling soaps…. and my absolute fav, an incredible organic hair powder, which fluffs and fulfills. Use in between shampoos makes your tresses feel fabulous. And the packaging is beautiful too!

Thank you Lulu for making us lovely!

Live Olive: Rock The Boat

Ahoy my adventurous shipmates! Come aboard this grand vessel called the Internet and join me for a high seas adventure!?

As you all know, I am very at home on the waves, hoisting the sails and gunning the engines and swabbing the decks too. It’s no mistake that I am in love with a sailor man, as boats, and all that goes with them, is in my very blood.

I am a seaside gal, after all.

That’s why these styles, which I am so pleased to don today, really hit me close to the heart. My dears, behold Olive Looks! An array of sweet dockside beauties that provide the perfect pairings for sand, salt, and of course – ships of all sorts!

Tugs, cruise liners, sailboats and canoes, no matter! These fashions look great anywhere.

From the deep black military-inspired blouse, replete with  flowy, “good ship lollipop” innocence, to the linen culottes, this is my fav outfit to date.

Just the thing to go from dockside to dinner, the perfect late July ensemble! Add a vintage black leather tote and classic boat shoes  and you’ve got style fit for shopping, summering and stowing away!

Olive Loves: Mark Fast Sandstorm Crocheted Dress

There are dresses… and then there are dresses that absolutely thrill – gorgeous, sumptuous numbers, that once donned, will make a gal feel like a queen.

This utterly amazing golden crocheted dress by designer Mark Fast is one of the latter – a stunning, shimmering, gilded wonder that makes me just swoon each time I look at it.

Imagine wearing this at a dark and smoky speakeasy or on the nightclub stage or out on the town – flapping the fringe and showing some leg and kicking up your heels like the dance floor darling you are!

Mr. Fast is a Canadian boy done good in London, England, a tremendously talented gent who designs clothes for fabulous folks like Rhianna and such. But  even if you are not a pop star my dears, you can at least look like one, (and be one in your own mind!) when you’re wearing a dress like this.

Wow!  Just – wow.
