Olive Goil: Daisy Fuentes

It has been a whirlwind my darlings, and I have been swept up in the beautiful chaos! NYC Fashion Week is drawing to a close, but I cannot let the week go by without sending out props to the beautiful Miss Daisy Fuentes, who just debuted the a gypsy/boho-influenced, lace and loverly line of wearable, wonderful clothes.

I attended her opening night shindig and show and had to many times wipe away the drool, as I stood in gape-mouthed awe, eager to get my little hands on this hot collection.

Paisley maxis, smoky colored swimwear, all gold and bronze and laser cuts, Miss Fuentes is a woman of firsts – first major Latina model, VJ, entrepreneur, designer and general Jane (or Juanita) of all trades.

On the eve of her Fashion Week debut, she shared her advice to gals like me around the globe,  “Stay focused, but keep yourself open. Your destiny may have bigger plans for you than even you can imagine. Listen to the people who’ve gone before you and find a mentor.”

Wise words, aren’t they? Not only is Miss Fuentes gorgeous, but she is also smart, humble, focused and with a flair for designing duds that make a lady look gorgeous without hurting the pocketbook.

Okay my dears. It is Friday and the afternoon is waning. I am happy, weary and still swooning over the sights and sounds of the past event-filled week. I’ll dish on more fabulous things soon, but until then – over and out from NYC.

Olive Goil: Julia Holter

My, oh my, oh my, my dears!

Do you know how there are moments when you hear a song and the sound of it tears you in two?  Just shatters your little ‘ol heart? The first time I heard the sweet, sweet voice of Julia Holter I felt just that, a sharp splinter glass break in the my chest that moved me in a way I can’t explain.

I know – you think I’m exaggerating. But I am not, my darlings, I swear!

I admit, I may be a bit of a drama queen at times, but take a listen to Miss Holter and I dare you not to feel the same!

The lovely young Julia graduated from prestigious CalArts with a degree in composition (Yes! She is a smarty pants!). Her first album, Tragedy, was released in 2011 and her second album, Ekstasis, followed in 2012.  Both are shimmering, angelic masterworks of synthesizer and electronica and experimental musings and oh dear readers, again, I must say it again – that voice!

Holter sounds like she has just swooped down from above, all diamond bright and beautiful!

Listen my dears… and feel your heart break, in a good way…

Olive Loves: Prism of Threads

Collage art, fashion, film, psychedelic visions and more, the blog and Etsy store of Prism of Threads simply blows my mind. That’s right. Mind blown!

You all know that I am a vintage fashion fanatic, and POT has a massive hand-curated collection of the most sublime pieces from the last 50 years of fabulous fashion style. That and the blog, oh the blog! Beautiful collections of exquisite art from other eras and our own. There is photography here and beautiful fashion spreads and illustration and gorgeous animations, and oh I could go on and on. Olive Loves: Too Fast’s Nautical Suit

Those hot August nights are finally here! What better way to wow all the sailors at the pool party or the beach bonfire, than in this flouncy, flirty polka dot number from the ladies at Too Fast.

This young company makes one of a kind clothes in a very retro style, think Rosie The Riveter and hot rods and pin-ups and you’ve got a good idea of the fashion sense that inspires these young designers.

Oh what a suit! This little doozy has a red polka dot top with anchor embroidery and a bikini bottom in nautical print, with button details with a sweet, sweet ruffle round the back.
