Olive Look: Pretty Vintage

My dears, today I am feeling sexy secretary or sophisticated boss lady, ready to file those papers, take on the boardroom and whip you all into ship shape.

What better ensemble for a day like today then this sweet and smart combo of a lacy vintage shirt, a delicate and flirty, with a jet black skirt and vibrant red and white scarf that say ‘kicking butt and taking names”!

Add a pair of simple, classic black ballet flats and you’ve got the ultimate, at work 9-5 and beyond combo.  Time to ask for that raise!

Olive Loves: Just Say Native

So, I have settled back to the ground following the whirlwind that is NYC Fashion Week and have returned to my second hometown – the blue sky, big sun City of Angels.

I am a New York gal, as you know, born and bred, but I have to say that L.A. is the yin to my Big Apple Yang and it was with open arms that I welcomed the perfect weather, gold mountains, and white surf.

And what better way to get in the California groove than with my favorite local vintage purveyors, Just Say Native! These young ladies have a knack for sourcing the most beautiful laidback styles, everything from boho dresses to leather jackets, cowboy boots and glitz gypsy accessories.

And denim, oh the denim!

Hillary and Linde met in Michigan and moved to California to pursue all sorts of dreams, nurturing along the way their shared obsession with embroidered silks, thick hand knit wonders, Southwest wovens, wild and wooly macramé –in short, just the sort of luxe wandering traveler vibes you all know I adore!

Their selections also always contain just the right touch of rocknroll edge and disco sparkle and cosmic cowboy whimsy – from black leather to sequined satin  to butterscotch suede fantastic fringe.

So my dears, visit a golden state. Take a gander at the Just Say Native Etsy site and stock up on a sweet and mellow California state of mind.

Olive Loves: Prism of Threads

Collage art, fashion, film, psychedelic visions and more, the blog and Etsy store of Prism of Threads simply blows my mind. That’s right. Mind blown!

You all know that I am a vintage fashion fanatic, and POT has a massive hand-curated collection of the most sublime pieces from the last 50 years of fabulous fashion style. That and the blog, oh the blog! Beautiful collections of exquisite art from other eras and our own. There is photography here and beautiful fashion spreads and illustration and gorgeous animations, and oh I could go on and on. But dears readers, go take a look for yourselves…

Their Etsy store has a selection of handmade pieces, recycled wonders which modernize the past and bring it full throttle into the future. Led by one of the finest scavengers of great vintage and thrift finds, a mysterious young lady artist in Los Angeles, Prism of Threads is a showcase of fine art, great clothes and an aesthetic marks by vivid color, explosive patterns and exploratory individuality.

Hooray!

Isn’t it wonderful, my dears, that the world wide web has allowed for such wonderful lost treasures to be found?

Olive Loves: Too Fast’s Nautical Suit

Those hot August nights are finally here! What better way to wow all the sailors at the pool party or the beach bonfire, than in this flouncy, flirty polka dot number from the ladies at Too Fast.

This young company makes one of a kind clothes in a very retro style, think Rosie The Riveter and hot rods and pin-ups and you’ve got a good idea of the fashion sense that inspires these young designers.

Oh what a suit! This little doozy has a red polka dot top with anchor embroidery and a bikini bottom in nautical print, with button details with a sweet, sweet ruffle round the back.
