Hey, It’s Been A While…

Hey everyone,

I know it’s been a long time, but life has been busy! Earlier this year Popeye started his own YouTube channel and I couldn’t be prouder. I made a few guest appearances and being back online reminded me of how much I loved writing and sharing all of my favorite things with you.

So, what have I been up to?

Well, let’s see. Last year, I worked with Joyrich on these very stylish jackets. And those Havaiana’s flip flops I got in Europe last year? I’m still wearing them! They’re even available in the States now. Oh, and the coolest thing? I was on the runway just a few weeks ago with MOSCHINO. Moi! Can you believe it? Look, here’s a picture:

I’ve been jet setting around the world, being Rosario in Spain, Olivia in Sweden and Olga in Finland. But now I’m back, and you can just call me Olive.

Of course, you can expect to keep seeing style and fashion content on my blog, but I’m a lady with many layers! So, I want to share more about myself and things I enjoy, from recipes (Popeye says I’m the best cook around), to travel (Ciao Milan! Bonjour Paris!), to wise words from great women I admire.

So, make sure you follow me on Facebook and Instagram, because I’m going to be sharing a whole a lot more of my latest adventures via #WorkItWednesday and my favorite memories with #OylRemembersWhen.

I want to see what you’ve been up to! Share with me your best #OylSoStylish moments on Instagram and I might just feature you on @oliveoylloves!

I’ve sure missed ya.

Love,

Olive Oyl

Olive Goil: Julia Holter

My, oh my, oh my, my dears!

Do you know how there are moments when you hear a song and the sound of it tears you in two?  Just shatters your little ‘ol heart? The first time I heard the sweet, sweet voice of Julia Holter I felt just that, a sharp splinter glass break in the my chest that moved me in a way I can’t explain.

I know – you think I’m exaggerating. But I am not, my darlings, I swear!

I admit, I may be a bit of a drama queen at times, but take a listen to Miss Holter and I dare you not to feel the same!

The lovely young Julia graduated from prestigious CalArts with a degree in composition (Yes! She is a smarty pants!). Her first album, Tragedy, was released in 2011 and her second album, Ekstasis, followed in 2012.  Both are shimmering, angelic masterworks of synthesizer and electronica and experimental musings and oh dear readers, again, I must say it again – that voice!

Holter sounds like she has just swooped down from above, all diamond bright and beautiful!

Listen my dears… and feel your heart break, in a good way…

Live Olive: MOON CANYON

Do not forget, my dears, in this new age of world wide webbing and email missives and smart phones and touch screens and the like… to stop, stand still, sit quiet…and smell the roses…

Daffodils, tulips, irises and lilacs, daisies and peonies – flowers have my heart! I am in love with sea and sky, but it is the land and its multicolored vibrant blossoms that grab hold – and don’t let go.

Moon Canyon are masters (mistresses, actually!) of the petal, floral arrangers inspired by everything from literature to country music. I am wowed, floored and awed by their talents and that said – I am so very pleased to introduce Miss Kristen Cassie, Moon Canyon co-founder.

Tell it like it is Miss Cassie!

Q: What drew you to floral art?

A: The flowers. For sure.  When I was in college studying literature I took a part time gig at a flower shop. Flowers demand you to be here now. Working with something so beautiful became meditative and poetic at the same time. Unlike school, which was face-in-a-book/ head-in-the-clouds, my part time job became a bit more visceral for me. I really enjoyed the way I could evoke feeling and emotion through floral arrangements, from both others and myself. I was hooked!

Q: What inspires your work (outside of the flowers themselves)?

A: Oh my gosh, everything! BUT…I will say music has really helped me to find my “voice” if you will as a floral designer. I will hear a song and immediately images of flowers will come to mind. I will want to make something that looks like what that song sounds like. This is one of my favorites to listen to get inspired…

Q: Favorite flower?

A: Daffodil and paper whites. I love bulb flowers. Eternal spring!

Olive for President!

On this auspicious day, our country’s esteemed celebration of independence and backyard BBQs and fireflies and fireworks and a nice hot summer day off from work – I would like to offer my brilliant services as future president.

Yes, that’s right dear readers – a vote for Olive is a vote for fun!

I intend to run on a platform of dance parties, good manners and fashionable footwear. Now – wouldn’t you campaign for a gal that espouses such valid values?

If I were to win, to become the very first female president of the good U.S of A. you can count on the following:

– A return to chivalry. Men must pull out chairs, open doors and lay down coats across mud puddles for all ladies.
– A very nice pair of comfy but stylish shoes on every foot.
– Mandatory nice manners. Please and thank you.
– Mandatory kindness and gentleness and goodnaturedness to all your neighbors, at all times.
– Mandatory dancing. Everywhere, any time. Boogie down America!
– And peace, love, and adventure for all!

Happy Fourth my sweets!
